Urban local bodies face significant challenges in managing municipal solid waste due to improper segregation at the household level. Despite continuous awareness campaigns, many households fail to separate waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories, leading to contamination of recyclable materials, inefficient waste processing, and increased landfill burden. The absence of real-time monitoring, accountability, and feedback mechanisms further reduces compliance. Manual inspection methods are time-consuming and ineffective in high-density urban areas with large waste generation. There is a need for a technology-driven solution that enables monitoring of waste segregation practices, provides timely feedback to households, and supports urban authorities in improving segregation efficiency and sustainable waste management.
